Do we need to exercise to lose weight?
The answer to this question is movement of any kind is good for you.Not only does it give you physical benefits but it also gives you mental health benefits as well.
So do you need to join a gym? Not necessarily unless it’s what you want to do.You can do any form of movement to get the many benefits from exercise. Find a movement you enjoy and mix it up from walking, dancing, running,or maybe a team sport is for you. Throw in some strength training, HIIT ( High Intensity Interval Training) and then maybe some yoga and Pilates to lengthen and tone the muscles.
If you find it difficult to leave the house for whatever reason there are plenty of things you can do right in the comfort of your lounge room like exercise videos on YouTube, to hand weights and just good old dancing with the volume cranked up-any movement is better than sitting on the couch.
There is also a saying that goes ‘You can’t out-run a bad diet’ you can try but you’ll probably be exhausted and not only that but you you’ll also increase the stress hormone cortisol which in turn can also store fat!
The experts say weight loss is 80% diet and 20% movement and as you’re more than likely already changing your food choices, reducing your sugar intake, eating nutritious protein and healthy fats, all you need to do now to create overall health is find a movement that’s right and enjoyable for you and you’re well on your way to a healthier you.
TIP: Add in extra incidental exercise by parking your car further from your destination, take the stairs, bike or walk to work are also ways to add more movement to your daily routine.
